Fun Fund Ideas

I had an idea today that I want to share with you.

In our house, the kids plan the menus and give me the grocery list. Today I thought, perhaps I should show them how to do couponing. I would buy them a couple of the Sunday papers and they would do all the cutting of coupons, and looking at what stores have what items on sale. Then they could give me the lists, with the appropriate coupons.

This would work pretty well for me because I have one debit card that is strictly for food. Of course if they want to eat out one night, that comes out of their food budget too.

Then at the end of the month, I could cash out the debit card and put that money into our “fun fund.” We could talk about doing fun things right then, ie. movie night out. Or maybe they want to save their fun fund for a larger vacation.

The more I think about this idea, the more I like it. I can’t wait to get them the paper tomorrow so they can start clipping coupons. Hmm…maybe they’ll start looking for online coupons too!
